Proud principal supplier of bakeout system to the MAX IV Laboratory

Hemi Heating has been selected as main supplier of bakeout equipment to MAX IV, counted as one of the main synchrotron light source facility in the world, at Lund University, Sweden. Since the storage rings must be baked out before use it´s very important to make sure the heating system works in a proper way.

Recently the final test were carried out for the first delivery of heating system that will ensure a reliable and steady heating in the UHV bakeout process at MAX IV. Two heating tents of 23 meter consisting of 8 zones each has been delivered to bake and activate two 23 meter sectors of vacuum chambers in the large storage ring with a circumference of 528 m. 30 pcs of heater fans are installed to heat the tents. The 8.5 m tent including 10 heater fans is for bakeout of the small ring in the facility with a circumference of 96 m. The whole heating system is regulated with PC-monitored temperature control which also is included in the delivery.

The vacuum chambers at MAX IV are characterized by the NEG coating technology which must be activated by heat. Therefore reliability of the oven is crucial for the desired final pressure achievement.

”In a large project like this it´s a lot of things to check. It´s very important to make sure that the tents have the right fit and tightness to avoid heat losses. Therefore we have been on place during test runs to document with heating camera and measure the temperature to ensure everything is working satisfactory. The responsible people who shall be working with the system must also be informed about how it should be controlled and monitored in the most effective way. Now it looks like everything is working perfectly and the plan is that the system shall be up running in the end of November”, says Bengt Ericsson, Technical Engineer and Account Manager for the project at Hemi Heating.
